The official languages of Madagascar are Malagasy and French however English is widely spoken. There is so much to explore and learn about this island country off the coast of East Africa. But before you get too excited, it’s important to realise that Madagascar is a big island, (the fourth largest in the world), much bigger than nearby Mauritius and Reunion Island, so be prepared that you may not get to see everything during your stay. But that simply means you’ll have to return again one day!

What is truly special about Madagascar is the amazing biodiversity born from the split from the Indian peninsula 88 million years ago. 90% of all Madagascan animals and wildlife are not found anywhere else in the world. This allowed the native flora and fauna to evolve in isolation, which is why there are so many wonderful and unique species to discover during your stay here.

Due to the incredible wildlife, there are a number of National Parks on the island, a visit to Anddasibe-Mantadia, Isalo or Parc National de l’Andringitra (just to name a few) is well worth adding to your to-do list. Isalo National Park
is home to the idyllic Blue Pool, a perfect natural swimming hole, so don’t forget to pack your swimmers to cool off after that hike! The National Parks are also the perfect place to see lemurs, a species endemic to Madagascar.
